The American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson will visit Studentafton in Lund on October 12. Jesse Jackson has been one of the most prominent leaders of the American civil rights movement for the past four decades. He emerged as one of Martin Luther King’s closest aides in the 1960s. He went on to form the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, a non-profit organization pursuing social justice, civil rights and political activism.
In 1984 he became the second African American in history to mount a nationwide campaign for President of the United States. He offered his candidacy again in 1988, losing the Democratic nomination narrowly to Michael Dukakis. Jesse Jackson was one of President Bill Clinton’s closest advisors and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2000. He has also served as the United States Shadow Senator for the District of Columbia.
Studentafton has invited Jesse Jackson to Lund to speak about human and civil rights. As always, guests attending our events are encouraged to prepare questions for our invited speakers.
